I actually thought Lincoln debated Frederick Douglass too until HS History

So I guess he is making a point that we need better HS education curriculum.

And I'm guessing for this to go public, it has to be reviewed by several aides right? For no one to pick that up, that's a bit embarrassing for the office.

And I'm not sure whether we suppose to care about what Europeans think of US or not.
